WARWICK, NY — New York State Assemblyman and candidate for New York’s 18th Congressional District, Colin Schmitt (R-New Windsor), joined with Congressman Jason Smith (MO-8) to hold a roundtable discussion with local Hudson Valley farmers and agri-business leaders. Following their conversation on the needs of agricultural producers and farmers, Assemblyman Colin Schmitt and Congressman Jason Smith led a press conference discussing what can be done to support our local farms:

Assemblyman Colin J. Schmitt stated, “Hudson Valley farmers and agribusinesses are a key part of our regional economy. Our local family farms and businesses are facing intense negative impacts on a daily basis caused by failed policies in Albany and Washington and inflation-driven economic factors. I’m grateful to Congressman Jason Smith for traveling to the Hudson Valley to hear firsthand the challenges our local farmers face. This was also a great opportunity for local farmers and agribusiness leaders to hear how the new House Majority can help and support local agriculture remaining a vital part of our region.”

Congressman Jason Smith (MO-8) stated, “It was a pleasure to be in New York with area farmers and local officials, especially Assemblyman Colin Schmitt. Fighting in Washington, DC for our rural way of life, it is important to find partners who understand that 4 out of 4 people eat, and who care about agriculture and prioritize our farmers and farming communities. It is extremely important that NY-18 is held by a fighter, an advocate, and a partner. There is no other choice than Colin Schmitt and I am proud to stand with him.”

Mark Rogowski of S & SO Produce Farms and Nancy, Mark, and Matthew of M & M Farms stated, “It was an honor to have Congressman Jason Smith and our next Hudson Valley Congressman, Colin Schmitt, visit our families’ farm and listen to our concerns. Our farming community and produce industry has been left behind and regulated out of existence by politicians who have never walked a day in our shoes or have even visited a local farm. We simply ask to be left to do what we have always done, produce for our communities and create good jobs. Thank you Assemblyman Schmitt for taking to time to listen to our needs, we have got your back.”

Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus stated, “I was honored to be in attendance with Congressman Smith and my long-time friend Assemblyman Colin Schmitt. As County Executive of one of the fasted growing communities in our country. We still produce, we still grow, but the local farms have been strangled. We need to reduce the amount of regulations, we need to reduce the taxes imposed on them, they do not need handouts, they need the government to simply get out of their way. It is time for a change. Colin Schmitt will be one of our biggest advocates in Congress. We need to get him there.”

Assemblyman Karl Brabenec stated, “Thank you Assemblyman Colin Schmitt and Congressman Smith for coming out. It is very important to hold these conversations. Albany has big a big block for local farmers. The black dirty region right here in Orange County is one of the richest soils in the world. We need to help out our farmers. Assemblyman Schmitt and I in Albany stood up against the Farm Labor Wage Act. We need to stop the nonsense, we need to stop the overregulation, have to stop the over taxation, and we need to help our local farmers succeed. Vote for change in November. If there are no farms, there is no food.”

Orange County Legislator Paul Ruszkiewicz stated, “It was a pleasure to join with Assemblyman Colin Schmitt and Congressman Jason Smith. As the only farmer in the County Legislature, it is important to share our concerns with our state and federal officials. In Congress, locally, we are not well represented. That is why I am looking forward to having Colin there so he can continue to represent our needs.”

Monroe Town Councilwoman Dorey Houle stated, “Thank you Assemblyman Schmitt for inviting me to be with you, Congressman Smith, and our local farmers. We need to get ahold of these regulations that are hurting our local farms. The prices from over-taxation are being trickled down to our consumers every day. We need to come together, we need to send people to Washington and Albany that are going to make common sense measures to keep all of us healthy. Thank you farmers for everything that you do.”
