TOP POLITICAL ANALYSTS CALL NY-18 HOUSE RACE A TRUE TOSS-UP
NEW WINDSOR, NY — New York State Assemblyman and candidate for New York’s 18th Congressional District, Colin Schmitt (R-New Windsor), today, released the following statement after the Cook Political Report and Sabato’s Crystal Ball released their newest House rating data, both determining the race for NY-18 is a true toss-up, given the finalization of New York’s redrawn district maps.
The Cook Political Report and Sabato’s Crystal Ball track electoral data and analyze U.S. House Races. Both are nationally recognized election forecasters with proven track records of accuracy in predicting race outcomes from a non-partisan standpoint.
“This latest data rates us as a clear frontrunner and reflects the strength of my candidacy in the race for NY-18,” said Assemblyman Colin J. Schmitt. “Even with previous predictions and analysis for this congressional race skewing toward the likely-to-lean Democrat, we knew that with strong grassroots support across the Hudson Valley, we would win in November. Now, the race is considered a true ‘toss-up’ seat according to all prediction models. While my opponent continues to dance between two districts, I remain committed to the Hudson Valley and look forward to continuing my campaign, reaching residents throughout the new counties within the new NY-18 district, and fighting for our Hudson Valley values in the U.S House of Representatives.”
The new NY-18 congressional district encompasses all of Orange County and parts of Dutchess and Ulster counties.
Colin Schmitt is committed to public service. Colin is a Sergeant in the Army National Guard and Assemblyman for the 99th NYS Assembly District which includes parts of Orange and Rockland counties. Colin and his wife, Nikki, live in the Town of New Windsor with their rescue dog Quincy. On April 6, 2021, Colin announced his campaign for New York’s 18th Congressional District. As a lifelong Hudson Valley resident, Colin will stand up for local families and their values in the U.S. House of Representatives by fighting for lower taxes and more jobs and defending the region’s wonderful quality of life.
